Bob Jones University Press
Infinity Christian Academy, Inc. has carefully chosen Bob Jones University Press curriculum to reflect our values of providing a quality and challenging educational program. It offers a time tested, research based program with a traditional approach to learning.  Most importantly, it supports what we value in five ways: academic rigor; biblical worldview shaping; compliance with national standards; dependable context; and excellence for each student.  BJU materials provide resources and ideas that are needed for a successful educational experience. Although the curriculum is planned and structured, ICA's commitment is to the individual student and his/her true educational needs. The curriculum is centered on the individual student in order to prepare them toward maturity - spiritually, academically, physically, and socially.
Since we are teaming with parents, the BJU teacher edition guides are recommended in order for you to teach during  your days at home. Each parent’s commitment involves supporting their student by ensuring assigned work is completed, teaching lessons needed in preparation for the next school day, and encouraging a general love for learning demonstrated by their commitment of time and thoughtful involvement.  Parents are encouraged to enrich and extend their individual child’s talents and interests as they deem necessary and confer with the teacher to best meet each student’s needs.

Language Arts

Reading, English and Writing

in light of biblical truth.

Literature

Other than our variety of genres through our reading selections, students will be exposed to great literature through a list of classic selections given to them by their teachers.  They will also be able to enjoy supplementary full length novels published by BJU called Booklinks. Teacher guides include lesson plans and special activities to accompany these supplementary materials.
These books are grade level appropriate and provide experiences that broaden and deepen the ability of the student to know, analyze, comprehend, synthesize and evaluate what they are reading.  Our goal is to encourage the love of reading, and to expand children’s imaginations.  Since research shows that students who read at least 20 minutes a day increase their proficiency, reading logs will be kept and turned in every two weeks.

The truth, beauty and moral goodness present in great literature are attributes of God Himself.  The chapters of study within our readers expose our students to all the genres; realistic fiction, historical fiction, nonfiction, poetry, etc.  Each story contains godly characteristics that are taught and discussed such as faithfulness, contentment, authority, self control, obedience, etc.   We teach our students to evaluate literature within a biblical worldview and understand the moral causes behind every human thought and behavior.

Spelling

BJU is a traditional program using a five day approach to spelling instruction. Students are taught phonetic and structural generalizations to give them the ability to spell words beyond list words. Students develop an understanding of word structure and mastery of spelling through the use of guided activities, dictionary skills and generalizations.

History

BJU writers try to discover not only what actions occurred at a particular time but also WHY they occurred. As Students study important historical people and events, they will be challenged to evaluate them from a biblical perspective. In every war, achievement, and human decision, we see God’s hand. He works behind the scenes turning human failure into good and moving world events toward the conclusion He has planned. Through the study of history we learn about His goodness, His promises, and His power.
